I have gastric bypass 13 months ago and I have lost about 140 pounds and have had a breast reduction about 1 month ago . I guess after the surgery my birth control got mixed up because I just recently discovered I was pregnant. I have yet to contact my surgeon or an OB but I wanted nutrition suggestions so that I can have the best pregnancy possible. I have noticed that all the protein powders I own say not to take if pregnant, so I don't know what to use to keep my protein levels up. Also did you guys take the bariatric vitamins during pregnancy or prenatal vitamins. I am extremely worried about having a safe pregnancy.
I am a little further post op than you, I am at 2 years but I am about 15 weeks pregnant. My ob said for me to take prenatal because you need increased amounts of folic acid, iron and vitamin D. But also I continue to take my extra iron and B12 that my WLS surgeon had told me to take before pregnancy. You should contact your ob and surgeon as soon as possible to have them go over these issues with you! Congrats!!!
Congrats first of all!
My dr and I have talked about taking nutritional supplements to get all my calories in. I haven't hit that road yet- so I don't know what she is going to suggest. I do know that I do much better when I eat all day. I will eat breakfast, then a snack, then lunch, another snack, dinner, and a snack after that. It is really the best way for me to get in enough calories right now. The last few days have been hard to eat with the rain issues, so truly the snacks have been a good source of calories and nutrition. I was told to increase my calories by at least 200. I can only do that when I eat between meals. (I'm not grazing, just adding in things like cheese, fruit, nuts, etc)
I am taking prenatals.
There are quite a few of us in the Dallas area. Do you go to any support groups? Debbie holds one in Plano. I belong to one in FW. Debbie is almost due and may provide better answers than I did. Are you going to Houston in Nov?
Good luck!
